Born and raised in Coral Gables, Florida, Sam Gonas graduated from Culver Military Academy in Culver, Indiana before furthering his education at the University of Arizona.

He returned to Florida, studying law at Florida International University College of Law, where he was on the Dean's List for all semesters, graduating cum laude and third in his class. During that time, he was an Articles & Comments Editor for FIU Law Review, earned various book awards, placed second out of 88 two-person teams nationwide in the A.B.A. Section of Taxation, 13th Annual Law Student Tax Challenge - J.D. Division, and was awarded an FIU Pro Bono Service award in recognition of his dedication to giving back to his community. Additionally, while attending law school, Mr. Gonas interned with the Miami-Dade County Health Department's legal office, the Miami-Dade Office of the State Attorney - Felony Division, and the Third District Court of Appeal. He also worked for a boutique law firm in Coral Gables that focused on estate planning and civil and criminal litigation as well as a family law firm in Coconut Grove.

Prior to earning his law degree, Mr. Gonas practiced real estate in Southwest Florida, with residential and commercial closings exceeding $10 million. He then obtained his real estate broker's license and opened a boutique real estate company. He also provided evaluations of multi-family housing, large acreage purchases, and planned residential communities for various international investment groups.
